Networking is essential for career growth, but many women hesitate to do outreach, avoid networking events, don't follow up after initial meetings, and underestimate their value.
I say this with love as I have been guilty of doing ALL the above.
From my experience, these missteps often lead to missed opportunities, stagnant careers, limited visibility, and lower self-confidence.
But what does effective networking mean really?
Effective networking means building and maintaining meaningful, MUTUALLY beneficial relationships that can help you achieve your personal and professional goals. See the emphasis on ‘mutually’?
WHY
Effective networking opens doors to new opportunities, enhances career progression, increases visibility, and boosts self-confidence.
Mutual benefits are key because they ensure that both parties gain value from the relationship, making it more sustainable and rewarding.
When you provide value to others, they are more likely to reciprocate, creating a cycle of support and opportunity.
But keep in mind, building genuine connections is key to creating mutual benefits and meaningful engagements.

To network effectively, follow these steps:
Smile: A warm smile can make a great first impression.
Listen actively: Show genuine interest in others by listening attentively.
Make eye contact: Establish trust and connection through eye contact.
Share your expertise: Highlight your skills and knowledge confidently.
Ask thoughtful questions: Engage in meaningful conversations by asking insightful questions.
Use confident body language: Project confidence through your posture and gestures.
Seek to create meaningful connections: Focus on building authentic relationships.
Highlight mutual benefits: Emphasize how both parties can benefit from the connection.
Be authentic: Be genuine and true to yourself in interactions.
Speak clearly and concisely: Communicate effectively and avoid rambling.
Introduce yourself boldly: Make a strong introduction with confidence.
Dress appropriately: Present yourself professionally.
Alliance Mapping: Identify and connect with key individuals who can support your goals.
