5 Tips to be More Confident

Happy Chinese New Year to those of you celebrating!

TODAY’s TOPIC

  • Why is confidence important?

  • What comes in the way?

  • How to address?

WHY

Confidence makes people feel empowered & positive. We all have seen & met confident people that we admire. Why is that?

When you’re confident, you experience:

  • A sense of accomplishment

  • Happiness & satisfaction

  • Increased motivation

  • Reduced anxiety

Pro tip: Competence & confidence are bi-directional. As you build competence in an area, you feel confident & the more confident you feel, more you try to build new competencies.

WHAT

If confidence is an important aspect of one’s life, why do people struggle with it?

For several reasons, some of which are as follows:

  1. Comparison to others: It is easy to measure your worth against someone else’s achievements which makes you feel inadequate & lowers your confidence & self-esteem.

  2. Negative self-talk: Constantly criticizing yourself or focusing on your perceived flaws can erode your confidence.

  3. Fear of failure: Worrying about making mistakes or not meeting your or other’s expectations prevents people from trying new things.

  4. Past experiences: Negative experiences or failures of the past create self-doubt & you become hesitant to try new things.

  5. Perfectionism: Setting unrealistically high standards for yourself leads to constant disappointment & a lack of confidence.

HOW

Imagine being in a work meeting, bursting with ideas but you hesitate to speak up.

Your voice misses the conversation & the chance to shine fades.

The cost? Missed career growth, stalled personal development & untold stories & ideas.

But here is the good news: confidence can be built with intentional action!
