Here are three types of burnout you need to know and high level strategies to combat:
Overload Burnout
Signs: Are ambition and workload driving you to exhaustion? Constant stress isn't a badge of honor, it's a call for balance.
Strategies:
Introduce mindfulness into your routine and cultivate self-awareness.
Reflect on who you're trying to impress by overworking.
Under-Challenged Burnout
Signs: Does your work leave you uninspired? Your potential deserves growth. Seek what fuels your passion.
Strategies:
To make work more engaging and meaningful, try ‘job crafting’.
Job crafting involves:
Task crafting: Altering the type, scope, sequence, and number of tasks that make up the job.
Relationship crafting: Altering who one interacts with during the workday.
Cognitive crafting: Mindfully altering the way tasks and/or work are interpreted so they feel more meaningful.
Neglect Burnout
Signs: Feeling unsupported and overwhelmed? It’s not a reflection of your abilities. Advocate for the resources you need to succeed.
Strategies:
Work towards setting boundaries and learn to say ‘no’. Having an accountability partner helps.
Ask for adequate support at work and at home. More importantly, seek professional help when needed.
Understanding your burnout is the first step towards reclaiming control. Start today!
