WHAT

Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, & often physical exhaustion caused by prolonged or repeated stress. It’s commonly associated with work but can also occur in other areas of life such as caretaking, relationships etc.

Key signs of burnout are:

  1. Fatigue: Feeling constantly tired or drained.

  2. Cynicism: Developing a negative or detached attitude towards your job or responsibilities.

  3. Reduced performance: Struggling to complete tasks that were once manageable.

𝟭. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁:

→ To make work more engaging & meaningful, try ‘job crafting’.

→ According to HBR, ‘job crafting’ comprises of 3 things:

a. Task crafting: Altering the type, scope, sequence, & number of tasks that make up the job.

b. Relationship crafting: Altering who one interacts with during the workday.

c. Cognitive crafting: Mindfully altering the way tasks and/ or work is interpreted so it feels more meaningful.

 

𝟯. 𝗡𝗲𝗴𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁:

Feeling unsupported and overwhelmed?

It’s not a reflection of your abilities. Advocate for the resources you need to succeed.

 

𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰:

→ Work towards setting boundaries and learn to say ‘no’. Having an accountability partner helps.

→ Ask for adequate support at work and at home. More importantly, seek professional help when needed.
