The Alignment Audit: How to Spot the Subtle Signs You’re Outgrowing Your Role
Not all misalignment looks like burnout. Sometimes, it’s quiet. Subtle. Easy to dismiss.
But left unchecked, it erodes your confidence, clarity, and capacity to lead.
WHAT
A few years ago, I sat in a role that looked perfect on paper. Great title. Great pay. Great team. But every morning, I felt a quiet resistance. Not dread, just a dull ache. A sense that I was performing someone else’s version of success.
That’s the thing about misalignment. It doesn’t always scream. Sometimes, it whispers.
This issue introduces the Alignment Audit - a tool I use with high-achieving women to help them catch the early signs of misalignment before it turns into burnout, disengagement, or a career pivot made in crisis.
WHY
Because staying in a role that no longer fits isn’t just uncomfortable, it’s expensive.
It costs you:
Clarity — you start second-guessing decisions you used to make with ease.
Confidence — you begin outsourcing your worth to performance metrics.
Capacity — your energy drains faster, even when the workload hasn’t changed.
And in high-performance environments, these shifts are often misread. You’re seen as less ambitious. Less engaged. Less ready for leadership.
But the truth? You’re not less, you’re evolving. And your role hasn’t caught up.
HOW
Here’s your Alignment Audit: five questions to help you assess whether your current role still reflects your 4.0 version:
Do I feel energized or drained after a typical workday?
Energy is data. If you’re constantly depleted, something’s misfiring.Am I making decisions from clarity or from fear of rocking the boat?
When fear leads, alignment fades. Is my current role helping me grow into who I want to become?
Success isn’t just about what you do, it’s about how you feel when you do it and how you do it.Do I feel seen and valued for my leadership or just my output?
If your identity is invisible, your impact will be too. What part of my identity feels underutilized or invisible here?
Your next version is waiting to be invited in.
If more than two of these questions stirred discomfort or clarity, it’s time to explore what reinvention could look like - not as a leap, but as a leadership decision.
If this stirred something in you, pause and honor it.
You don’t have to leap. You just have to listen.
