5 Career Myths You’ve Probably Internalized

The Beliefs That Keep Brilliant Women Stuck
She had the title.
The salary.
The respect.
And still… she felt off.
I’ve coached dozens of high-achieving women through soul-aligned career pivots, and the story is often the same:
They’re not stuck because they lack ambition.
They’re stuck because they’ve internalized beliefs that no longer serve them.
These myths are quiet.
They’re familiar.
And they’re powerful enough to keep you in a role that no longer fits.
WHAT
Here are the top 5 myths I see most often, and the truths that help my clients finally move forward:
“If I leave my job, I’m throwing away everything I’ve built.”
→ Truth: You’re not starting over, you’re building forward.“Clarity comes from thinking harder.”
→ Truth: You’ve already overthought it.
Clarity comes when your nervous system feels safe enough to hear your truth.“I should be grateful, others have it worse.”
→ Truth: Gratitude and desire can coexist. Wanting more doesn’t make you selfish — it makes you honest.“Success means staying in one lane.”
→ Truth: You’re allowed to evolve. Your 4.0 version might be in a whole new lane — and that’s growth, not failure.“I need to wait until I’m 100% ready.”
→ Truth: You won’t feel ready. Bold moves are made with courage, not certainty.
WHY
These myths don’t just shape your decisions, they shape your identity.
They keep you loyal to outdated definitions of success.
They make you question your instincts.
They convince you that wanting more is a betrayal, not a breakthrough.
Naming them is the first step toward reclaiming your power.

Here’s how to start shifting out of these myths in a way that’s practical and empowering:
Build forward, not from scratch.
Make a “career inventory” of your transferable skills, values, and wins.
Ask: “What do I want to carry with me into my next chapter?”
Create clarity through nervous system safety.
Practice breathwork, grounding, or journaling from a regulated state.
Ask: “What truth feels quiet but persistent?”
Remember: clarity often comes when you stop chasing it.
Honor both gratitude and desire.
Write a two-column list: “What I’m grateful for” and “What I still crave.”
Let both exist without judgment. This is emotional maturity, not entitlement.
Redefine success as evolution.
Reflect on how your definition of success has changed over the years.
Ask: “What version of me am I becoming and what does she value?”
Act before you feel ready.
Choose one small, stretchy action this week (send the email, book the call, say no).
Track how your confidence grows after the action, not before.
If one of these myths hit close to home, reply to this email or DM me on LinkedIn.
Let’s talk about what’s quietly keeping you stuck,
and how to move toward the version of success that actually feels like yours. 🧡
