WHAT IS RESILIENCE

Resilience refers to the ability to bounce back from adversity, setbacks, or difficult situations. Itโ€™s about adapting, recovering, and growing stronger in the face of lifeโ€™s ups and downs.

WHAT IS THE KEY TO BUILDING RESILIENCE

It's a commonly held belief that self-esteem is the golden ticket to a successful life.

However, growing research suggests that it's self-compassion, not self-esteem, that's the key to resilience and true inner strength! Let me explain how:

Self-compassion involves treating yourself kindly and fairly, especially during challenging times.

Itโ€™s not about self-pity or weakness; instead, itโ€™s responding to yourself as you would to a distressed friend.

Dr. Kristin Neff identifies three elements of self-compassion:

  1. Mindfulness: Being aware of and acknowledging our emotions.

  2. Common Humanity: Recognizing that suffering is part of the human experience.

  3. Self-Kindness: Treating ourselves with care and support.

Practicing self-compassion allows us to respond with kindness, shifting from shame to a positive mindset, ultimately building resilience.

SELF-ESTEEM VS SELF-COMPASSION
